The collection is now set to show creator names as well as works. This year's Jukebox is over!

Thank you so much, everyone who participated and wrote and drew - assignments and treats and pinch hits. In terms of works, this Jukebox was the largest ever.

Please continue reading, viewing, and commenting at the collection. See previous post for a table of links and lyrics & a playlist for works submitted before reveals. The collection is on moderated if you wish to add any late works.

Jukebox will run on a similar schedule next year.

You may have noticed the low number of fandoms showing up in the fandoms list of the collection: many Jukebox works are for new fandoms and this is their first work. I will post an updated playlist and some finding aids (video/lyrics/links to works) when the collection goes live, and I expect fandoms will be canonized relatively quickly.

Please make sure your offers match at least one request! You can see the requests on AO3 or in the updated list on this community.

We currently have 47 sign-ups, which is a perfectly good number with which to run the exchange. However, I'm a little puzzled, because it's lower than average - whereas the tag set is far, far bigger.

Should I extend sign-ups another day - would that affect anyone positively?

ETA I am going to extend sign-ups for 27 hours past what I originally said, partly because of slightly odd (but not problem-causing) numbers, and partly because the way my work schedule falls this week, it's going to be a lot easier to send assignments the day after. The countdown is updated. I apologise to anyone who was just hoping to get their assignment soon. I hope it is excellent when it comes.

Letters are optional. Whether or not you write one is up to you. Some people like the tradition and the opportunity to organise and format their prompts according to personal style.

If you're writing a letter to potential authors/artists/podfic artists, you can link it here or at the equivalent post on LJ. You can also put your whole letter in a comment or series of comments here, if you don't have a journal or similar to host it on. Wherever you put it, please include the link in your sign-up on AO3.

If writing a letter, please make sure it's complete and public by 14 April.

If you're wondering what to put in your letter, try browsing through the 'dear creator' or 'dear writer' tags on the DW or LJ comm, and use the letters you like as a model for your own. I suggest you include the following information at a minimum:
-your AO3 name
-the songs you're requesting
-the medium or media you're requesting for each song
-the prompts and DNWs you entered into your sign-up.

You may wish to use your letter to expand on your sign-up prompts, or just include lists of tropes you like or dislike.

Here's a possible template for linking your letter here. Use it if you find it convenient:

This year, the requests will also be visible on AO3 during the sign-up period.

Here is the sign-up form. Welcome to this year's challenge! Sign-ups will close at 11:59PM EDT 11 April (see what time that is for you).

Please read the rules and schedule before signing up. The rules are a little different every year.

You can request 3-10 canons, and offer 3-10 canons. If a canon doesn't appear in the drop-down menu when you go to enter it, you can copy and paste it from the tag set and press enter.

Each of your requests and offers must be tagged with 1-3 of the labels "Fanfic", "Podfic", and "Fanart".

If you are offering podfic, you are pledging to create both text and recording (500-5000 words). You are welcome to team up with a friend to create a work, whether you're the recording artist or the writer, but if that's what you intend, please contact me at jukebox.mod@gmail.com to let me know of the arrangement and to provide a contact email for your friend.

Your requests have a space for optional details. Go ahead and use them to talk about how you understand the song and what kind of art/fic/podfic you might like. However, your gift creator doesn't have to follow your prompts. They do have to respect clear and specific Do-Not-Wants listed in the sign-up (like "no pregnancy" "no scat" "no rainbows").

Your requests have a space for a letter link, if you want to provide one. You must include the link before sign-ups are closed. A letter is NOT required for this exchange, but it is a traditional way of telling your creator in detail about your preferences / advertising the exchange. I will put up letter posts shortly. If you are writing a letter, please have it complete and unlocked by the end of 14 April.

NEW - this year, requests will be visible as soon as you submit them.

Notes to Mod in Offers

NEW - I'm attempting an experiment in hand-matching. I have added an Optional Notes box in the Offers part of the sign-up. If you want to, you can use one of these boxes to give me extra notes about your matching preferences in either direction, such as "Don't worry if the person who writes for me is the person who wrote for me last year, I love their stuff," or "May I please have an assignment that includes a long letter," or "If possible, I'd prefer not to write or receive from X," (I don't need to know why) or "I'd like to draw something fantastical," or "I really want to get X, so please match me on that."

You do not need to use this feature.

You are welcome to email jukebox.mod@gmail.com with these preferences instead of putting them in the form.

I will take these Optional Notes preferences into account, but can't promise to fulfil them.


Corrections are still welcome to the tables of sources for all canons (by song, by artist).

Welcome to Jukebox 2018! This is a fanworks gift exchange in which art, fic, and podfic is created about songs and music videos.

Canon nominations will occur during 20-30 March this year. You can nominate 7 songs or music videos (plus potential bonus round, see below). The rules about what can be nominated can be found here and haven't changed from last year.

Sign-ups changes
I am making two changes to sign-ups this year.

First, requests will be visible throughout the sign-up period.

Second, I am enabling the optional details field in the Offers section of the sign-up. These details will be visible only to me and you - not to other participants. You can use this field to give me further information about your matching preferences, if you want. You don't have to use this field. I will read and make note of your preferences but may not be able to follow them - my first priority is to ensure that everyone has a recipient based on the fandoms and media they have offered.
