Just wanted to clarify my previous post about Corvyx. I encourage everyone to support these artists via Patreon and elsewhere, because they deserve it. I'm just very grateful that people like me who can barely afford to buy groceries are blessed to be able to listen to these artists even when we don't have the money to pay. (That's why I like, sub, and share as much as I can).

He's also on Spotify, FYI. I'm about to head over there now.

So, while I'm here, have another video. This seems to be one of his most popular ones.

Why have I never heard of Corvyx?!

I'm ashamed to say I've just discovered Corvyx tonight. He is a phenomenal talent. The kind of performer you listen to with your mouth hanging open. His videos are professional quality, too. There are so many amazingly talented musicians on YouTube, and they share their art with us, and you can listen for free. I love YouTube artists.

I know, I know. Disturbed did the ultimate cover of this song, but just... give it a listen.

A few months ago I was at the coffee shop to finish a rapidly approaching overdue story for a fic exchange and noticed a poster for an upcoming ZineFest in town! A bigger city's comic group wanted to trial balloon something in our much smaller city to see if it could work. It had no url on it! At all! But I photographed the name and used the internet and found their instagram and their email and contacted their email because I had no instagram and got the url to their just made website which changed a week later! Anyway after much trial and error including 2 days of their sign up form not working until I discovered it would on the third browser I tried, I signed up for it!

And then waited a month or so for a response.

I got in!

I made all my zines, made stickers, packed up my Ceramic Objects, made a sign and day of we got there in plenty of time, had no problems at set up (minus needing to borrow some tape from the front desk of the art gallery where it was being held) and it went great!

I actually sold stuff! People wanted to buy my writing and my art! I made back the cost of everything! And I talked to so many people and the only bad part is I am one of those people who has to deliberately make facial expressions and it had been so long since I worked in retail I had forgotten the facial movements for a customer service smile and my brain was relaying to me that the muscle movements I felt weren't 'friendly smile' they were 'death rictus'.

But everyone was very nice, no horror stories at all! And it feels so amazing people wanted creative stuff I'd done, you have no idea!

In other news, the latest 'episode' of the Star Trek game I run finished. It was a Beach Episode with lots of Section 31 bullshittery where the players rolled as horribly as possible at every juncture. It was kind of beautiful. However, they got in some AMAZING character moments they hadn't before I would call the whole thing a massive success. The person I'm running these games for primarily and I are now planning the next episode with some very interesting stuff I have to keep under my hat for now.

The Cthulhu/Catthulhu game is going well. I'm managing good player participation, the modifications of the game are going well, and I decided to do a pretty bold move this session that really deviated from the module but got a clue across to the cats that I could not have had them discover otherwise. They also really liked my latest npcs - Pasta and Devil the hippy and military dogs, and Lucille the mangled but healthy and wellspoken cat who keeps/protects the murderous npc Bogdan.

Previous NPC successes were Wiggle and Squeak, the guinea pigs who thought that now their owner was dead, they were going to inherit the house. They had renovation plans. And Fraulein Hoffman, who to her and everyone else's surprise is not a cat but an opossum and possibly having an affair with Burgocat Hans.

I've been having trouble making Pathfinder comics lately, or even HamsterBandit Industries comics lately. I have a lot of pencils and scripts but actually committing to finishing has been tough. I'll wait for a 3 am manic period I guess.

Today in sweater-knitting news

I am knitting the simplest possible* bottom-up sweater, and today I reached two simultaneous milestones:

1. I finished the main torso of the sweater to the point where I divide for the armholes.

2. I finished exactly one third of my total yarn.

Is that an appropriate amount of yarn to have used to this point? Will there be enough to knit the entire sweater? I HAVE NO IDEA!! One of my reasons for knitting a simple sweater is to give myself an idea of a yarn baseline. I want to find out what is the least amount of yarn I can use and make a sweater.

*Simplest possible for me, and yes, I am aware of the irony there. But it's stockinette, in the round, I'm really very close to the stitch and row gauge called for in the pattern, and I'm only making really very very few modifications as I go. (Just the ribbing depth and the body shaping and the total length and the sleeve-cap type and probably the sleeve shaping as well.) Practically no modifications at all!

I'm very happy with it so far, and am looking forward to seeing what happens with the rest of it. :D

[personal profile] kingstoken's 2025 Book Bingo: Non-Human POV

(I checked this square off my bingo card last time, but this new release arrived with perfect timing, so I'm doubling up.)

Ew, It's Beautiful is the newest collection of cartoonist Joshua Barkman's webcomic False Knees. It contains around 120 short comics, the majority of which were new to me, separated into sections for winter, spring, summer, and fall based on their setting.

The stars of False Knees are usually birds, but there are some cats, insects, and at least a couple of beavers in the mix here. Barkman's art is legitimately beautiful, with a naturalist's specificity and a knack for combining human expressions with realistic animal features, and his writing captures the universal experience of being a small creature in an unfathomably big world. It's full of absurd humour, occasional moments of awe, and recurring bits about the creative process, self-image, and the way friends or family can be on entirely different wavelengths. The comic is where I got my current default icon from, and it almost never fails to bring me a little joy or give me something to appreciate.

i.e. Me!

I'm about 50% less angsty and in my feels now! Got a new laptop (that I bought myself - used but a beauty nonetheless). I have a job... as my mom's caretaker, but I get paid for it, so win!

It's crazy that I haven't posted in such a long time but I was in a shit headspace for a while there. Depression is a bitch, ya know? I'm no better by any means, just kind of learned to let go of what I can't win. Playing video games helps, too. A Lot.

I don't fangirl as much as I used to, but I miss it. I have much fangirling to do about Genshin Impact and My Hero Academia. I'm not sorry about it, lol.

Oh! I've been reading a lot lately. I discovered the ability to walk down the street and read a book on my phone. Sounds impossible but it's the best time for me to get my reading done.

There's other things to say, but mostly I wanted to say hi!

Challenge #1:

Journaling Prompt: Light up your journal with activity this month. Talk about your goals for July or for the second half of 2025.

Goals for July:
-write and complete at least one fic (writing more non-exchange fics has been a constant goal and I am hoping to get there)
-read three books (I keep checking books out but I need to actually finish them and find the motivation to read again)

Goals for the rest of the year
-get more organized (a constant struggle)
-try something new (vague but it's easier when it's broad)
-make more solid traveling plans
-try to write a little very day (I'm hoping consistent habits will be good for me)

Creative Prompt: Shine a light on your own creativity. Create anything you want (an image, an icon, a story, a poem, or a craft) and share it with your community

I made 5 summer-y icons. Anyone is welcome to save/use them! :)

So, I just whipped up a little something for the creative part of the challenge. It's not much, but feel free to swipe if you want. I've been wanting to do something along this line for a while now... There are also a couple of other themes that I was wishing I had icons for, but now I can't remember what they were.

There's a Whataburger opening down the street from me. I'll have to see if it lives up to the hype. Do you know what does live up to the hype? Raising Cane's. They have the best chicken I've ever tasted. I've had it a few times now, because each time I think it can't possibly be as good as I remembered. It is.

And this upbeat vid popped up in my YT feed tonight. It's from the Covid days, and I posted it back then too, but it's perfect for these days, too.

We don't know, it's unclear where we'll be this time next year.

(blanket headphone warning for all the fancams featured here: LOUD fangirling)

Y'all! I can't BELIEVE this ship has only 10 fics on AO3. I mean look at this!!! The fics should be writing themselves by now!!!!!

The rolled up sleeves?! The loosened ties?!?! The PULLING of said loosened ties?!?!?! The waist grabs?!?!?!?! The hands on waists, period?!?!?! The FLIRTINGGGGGG?!?!?!?!

They literally walked towards each other, holding eye contact, while singing to each other that they're in love?!?! It's canon now!!!!!

I have watched every fancam ever of Yonghee and Hyunsuk performing this. For research purposes. The research being finding the perfect one. There isn't, but this one's a splice of several fancams and edited well (what keeps it from being perfect is that the OP is clearly Hyunsuk biased, and I'm Yonghee biased by Vindrae at Kingdom of Knuffel):

So, I must mandatorily sign off with a Yonghee fancam:

No but seriously, the fact that there are no canon compliant fics about this performance and all its implications? IS A FACT I CANNOT ACCEPT. I will fill this ship tag all by myself if I have to but like LOOK at the glory of this! It's a miracle, and my soul is so well fed, I must now spread the word. Hear ye. Kim Yonghee/Yoon Hyunsuk. Amen. //mic drop

I was just talking about Leverage, and the subject of Christian Kane's singing came up and made me realize I neglected to include him in my "Actors who Sing" series. Absolutely unforgivable, so I had to rectify that immediately. I'm not a huge country fan, but I enjoy listening to his singing voice.

First is my favorite of his songs, "Thinking of You." And I tossed in the Leverage fanvid to "House Rules" too, just in case there's someone who hasn't seen it. It was a bit famous because Christian himself tweeted about it when it came out (which was 15 years ago btw). And if you want to see the others in the series, just search the tag: music: actors who sing
