I'm interested in nominating some cover versions where the gender changes the meaning, or at least the feeling of the song. One I'm specifically contemplating is Bryan Ferry's cover of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. I love the idea of the POV being the jaded older man with the younger woman (possibly a gold-digger) as opposed to the naive younger woman about to give it up and wondering the title question.

WIN. Though I can't think of any such offhand. I suppose any love song that uses I pronouns for the singer and gendered pronouns for the beloved, sung by someone of a different gender to the original singer...?

Scratch sentence two. Taylor Swift's "You Belong to Me". Though last Yuletide someone did a fabulous job genderbending that.

Some other fun Ferry examples (from his first solo album) are It's My Party (without changing the names or pronouns) and Piece Of My Heart, which isn't gender specific, but again takes on quite a different tone when sung by a man.

Another one I like is the classic Marlene Dietrich (among others) Lili Marleen. It's generally sung by a woman and yet it appears to be the POV of a male soldier.

Lots of interesting potential there.

What about Ivri Lider's amazing cover of Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl"?

That definitely fits the parameters. It bugs me, though. I can't put my finger on why.
