Nominations are open!
2018 tag set for nominations is here
Nominations will close at the end of 30 March EDT.
Please glance over the guide below before you nominate, and then come back to this post or its LiveJournal equivalent to comment. And if you're still thinking about what you want, try the brainstorming posts on LJ and on DW.
How to nominate
Songs or music videos shorter than 20 minutes can be nominated on AO3. Read more information on what can be nominated here. If you don't have an AO3 account to nominate with, please email jukebox.mod@gmail.com for an invite.
Please nominate in the style:
Song Name - Artist Name (Format).
That is -
Golden Years - David Bowie (Song)
Beautiful Stranger - Madonna (Music Video)
- etc. If nominating a cover, use the name of the cover artist.
When you have made your nomination choices, it is very much appreciated if you can comment on this post with the following information for each song:
This information is optional, but it makes it easier for me to put together the table of all canons, and it also might make it easier for someone else to get interested in the music you care about. You're welcome to give more than one link - for example, a YouTube link is useful for creating playlists, but you might choose to include Bandcamp as well as it leads more directly to supporting the artist. You do not have to give extra links.
You can also choose to include information about the genre of each song (even more optional, but it can help people decide which songs to try out). Use this form:
N.B. I've noticed some people including warnings for videos in the brainstorming post. I don't have a system for including warning notes in the tables of canons, and so was not planning to include them. I can see advantages, but also disadvantages. But I'm open to ideas if you have them.

Translation of Huitzil lyrics
Date: 2018-04-01 09:49 am (UTC)I don’t know if the road you have chosen will take you to the truth
Or maybe you didn’t learn and now to give costs you more
Or maybe you didn’t learn and now to give costs you more
Maybe it’s the bird on the left
Blue Huitzil, give me more strength
Colibri, awaken
And now
I spend all my days and nights searching
(oh – oh – oh – oh – oooh)
And the nightmares are barely beginning
(oh – oh – oh – oh – oooh)
For years the television has programmed me
(oh – oh – oh – oh – oooh)
And now I spend all my days and nights searching for you
(oh – oh – oh – oh – oooh)
Every time, whatever I think
The universe breathes and goes in reverse
You think I don’t perceive your energy and with a verse
You offer me the solution
And since I keep my thoughts to myself
Before you’ve decided what comes in the beginning
I would like to paint it like smudges on a canvas
Who has the solution?
And now
I spend all my days and nights searching
(oh – oh – oh – oh – oooh)
And the nightmares are barely beginning
(oh – oh – oh – oh – oooh)
For years the television has programmed me
(oh – oh – oh – oh – oooh)
And now I spend all my days and nights searching for you
(oh – oh – oh – oh – oooh)

Translator's Note
Date: 2018-04-01 10:07 am (UTC)The song references the mesoamerican deity Huitzilopochtli, whose name is commonly translated to 'hummingbird on/of the left' or 'hummingbird on/of the south'--sometimes 'left-handed hummingbird'.
'Huitzilin' is the Nahuatl word for 'hummingbird', but is commonly written in Spanish sources as 'huitzil'; I don't speak Nahuatl, so I can't comment further. Since it's intentionally in Nahuatl in the song, I left it intact.
'Colibri' is the name for a genus of hummingbirds, found in South America. They're known as violetears in English but as colibri is their scientific name as well as the common name used in Spanish, I left it intact. The ones endemic to Mexico are usually blue.
