Iff you want, comment here to describe why people should listen to/ fall in love with your favourite songs from the nomination list. Describe the genre, suggest "if you like X, you'll like Y," and so on.

More recommendations may be found at the same post on LiveJournal.

Loreena McKennitt! If you're a fan of folk music, ballads, and hauntingly beautiful songs, then check her out. "Marrakesh Night Market" and "The Bonny Swans" are nominated for the fest, and they're both gorgeous. "The Bonny Swans" has a haunting and lovely refrain that tends to become an earworm for me (so, uh, be warned).

Once Upon a Time in Space - The Mechanisms, if there's anyone left after last Yuletide who hasn't listened to this album. "Cinder's Song" and "Laid in Blood" were nominated for the fest, but the whole album is very worth listening to, which can be done for free (and lyrics are there as well) here. Umm... if you like dark fairy tales, or folk science fiction, you'll like these? I have a hard time describing these, except that they're awesome and I have yet to find someone who doesn't like it.

"Chiron Beta Prime" - Jonathan Coulton... If you're looking for a bouncy humorous song about evil robot overlords and their human slaves, and one of the human's Christmas newsletter, this is it! Coulton can be hit or miss for me, but this is definitely a hit. I like the Youtube video on this one, too.

"They Can't Take That Away from Me" - Gershwin - soooo, when you are going to have lyrics like "The way you sing off key/The way you haunt my dreams/No they can't take that away from me" and "The way you changed my life/No they can't take that away from me," you are crying out for a dark science-fiction take with memory wipes. Right?!

"Jerusalem" by Dan Bern is a folk song where the singer confesses midway through that he is the Messiah. Because he just can't hold the secret in any longer.

Cool. :) I'm only five into Night Vale, so I haven't gotten there yet. But I've loved the song for years. Dan Bern is a wonderful storyteller. Other favorite songs by Bern include "Estelle", "God Said No", "Suicide Bomb", and "Tiger Woods".
