I know a piece of music can tell a story by itself, without words, but I feel there is more likely to be an understanding between writer and recipient if there are words that both can point to.
Amazing stories can come out of one person saying "Here's an abstract thing, you may not understand it completely, I don't, do something with it," and the other person making free with inspiration. But I think that can also be an intimidating and risky situation. That's my reasoning for this rule.
