Welcome to Jukebox 2019! This is a fanworks gift exchange in which art, fic, and podfic is created for the narratives in songs and music videos.

Canon nominations will occur during 13-22 March this year. The rules about what can be nominated can be found here and haven't changed from last year.

Please use this post or its LiveJournal equivalent to discuss what you're thinking of nominating! See also the past brainstorming tag. Other questions also welcome.

Wow, I need to go back and go through my notes because I saw some interesting music videos that were nominated for Yuletide that I wanted to see in Jukebox this year! But off the top of my head, I did want to nominate the “Pynk” video by Janelle Monáe (I feel it can stand alone from the Emotion Picture, and I have so many questions about it), at least “Electric Lady,” also by Janelle Monáe (the song, not sure about the video yet), and the video for “Party of One” by Brandi Carlile. I’m also thinking about a Kehlani video for a song off of her new mixtape.

I love the idea of nominating PYNK and other Monae songs/videos. Do you think Emotion Picture could be nominated? -- hmm, looking at the rules, it's longer than 20 minutes tho -- 48 or 49 min. (Solange also just dropped a film for her new album! https://www.complex.com/music/2019/03/solange-releases-visuals-film-for-new-album-when-i-get-home)

I know about Solange’s Texas Film, but the whole thing wouldn’t qualify because it’s 30 minutes or so long. Also, it’s only available on Apple Music for the moment, and I wouldn’t expect anyone to get Apple Music to watch it.

Other Monáe songs and videos have been nominated for this exchange in the past. I forgot to mention someone nominated “Electric Lady” last year in my comment, and the video for “Make Me Feel” was nominated by itself. As long as you’re asking for fic about the song or video by itself, and the song can stand alone without relying on other canon information, you’ll be okay.

Good idea to check out songs in Yuletide! (Looked them over, and I definitely hope Janelle's work gets nominated. I am not caught up on her music but follow articles about all she's doing....badass. :) )
