Sign-ups for Jukebox 2017 are open for two more days and close at 11:59pm EDT, Wed 5 April | the end of this countdown. When sign-ups close, you will not be able to edit your requests or offers, or add a letter link.

If you're still tossing up your offers, consider going to the tables of all songs and listening to, or reading the lyrics of, a couple of pieces of music whose names catch your eye. You can see on the sign-up summary if anyone's asking for them yet.

Here is the sign-up form. Welcome to this year's challenge! Sign-ups will close at 11:59PM EDT 5 April (see what time that is for you).

Please skim the rules and schedule before signing up. The rules are a little different every year.

You can request 3-10 canons, and offer 4-10 canons. If a canon doesn't appear in the drop-down menu when you go to enter it, you can copy and paste it from the tag set and press enter.

Each of your requests and offers must be tagged with 1-3 of the labels "Fanfic", "Podfic", and "Fanart".

If you are offering podfic, you are pledging to create both text and recording (500-5000 words). You are welcome to team up with a friend to create a work, whether you're the recording artist or the writer, but if that's what you intend, please contact me at jukebox.mod@gmail.com to let me know of the arrangement and to provide a contact email for your friend.

Your requests have a space for optional details. Go ahead and use them to talk about how you understand the song and what kind of art/fic/podfic you might like. However, your gift creator doesn't have to follow your prompts. They do have to respect clear and specific Do-Not-Wants listed in the sign-up (like "no pregnancy" "no scat" "no rainbows").

Your requests have a space for a letter link, if you want to provide one. You must include the link before sign-ups are closed. A letter is NOT required for this exchange, but it is a traditional way of telling your creator in detail about your preferences / advertising the exchange. I will put up letter posts shortly. If you are writing a letter, please have it complete and unlocked by the end of 11 April.

Requests are not visible now. I will make all requests visible on AO3 when the assignments go out.

Corrections are still welcome to the tables of sources for all canons.

If you have any trouble signing up, I would like to know & help - contact me at jukebox.mod@gmail.com.

Now is a good time to check that you have entered any prompts you planned to enter into your sign-up. If you have written or are writing a letter, please check you have added the link to your sign-up form too.

(Link to sign-up form - will go to yours if you have already submitted one & are logged in)

For ease of tweaking offers, I have enclosed a break-down of which requests are currently for fanfic, for fanart, and for podfic, below the cut.

Countdown to end of sign-up period

The majority of offers and requests concern fanfic. If you want to sign up offering mostly podfic or art, feel free to ask me (jukebox.mod@gmail.com) about which canons in the sign-up summary have podfic or art requests, and I will give you as accurate an answer as I can at the time.

If you are working on a letter, please complete it by the end of 10 April in your time zone. Assignments should go out at some point between sign-ups closing and 8 April. Usually, Jukebox assignments go out very soon after sign-ups close - if there is a reason for an unusual delay, I'll let you know.

An ineligible canon
It seems I approved Dvořák's New World Symphony and I shouldn't have - that is too long. Sorry. I am removing it from the tag set and the tables, but if the nominator wishes to make an argument that a single movement stands on its own sufficiently, I'll put it back in. Jukebox pieces need to be 20 minutes or shorter.

Sign-ups will be open for approximately 5.5 more hours. They will close at approximately 6pm NZST on Thurs 16 April.

Here is the widget that displays the time in your time zone.

Last time I looked, everyone DID have a possible match both ways. Congrats! That means that I am likely to send out assignments a few hours after I close sign-ups.

If you are working on a letter, please try to ensure it's complete and unlocked by the end of 18 April in your timezone, whatever that is. I won't be checking, and there's no penalty, but it will help your creator get off to a good start if your letter is waiting for them (or coming VERY soon).

Please see the previous post for pinch hitting and beta reading.

Finally and at last. Sorry for the delay.

Sign-up form | Dates, rules, and FAQ | Tag set | Canons ordered by artist | Canons ordered by song title | Podfic permission post

I have made some changes to the way the fest runs this year, so please read carefully before signing up.

You have 3-10 offers, and 3-8 requests.

Offers
You need to tag each of your offers with 'Podfic' or 'Fanfiction' or 'Art'. You can also tag an offer with both 'Fic' and 'Art'.

If you select Fic or Art or both, you need to enter a song from the tag set for your canon.

If you are offering podfic, enter 'No Fandom' where the form asks you for a fandom. Please also write some details in the Optional Details box to help me match you with someone who wants podfic.

If you are offering art or fanfiction for any particular song, please do not use the Optional Details box for your offers. I will only use those details to match podfic artists & their recipients.

Requests
You need to tag each of your requests with 'Podfic' or 'Fanfiction' or 'Art'. You can also tag a request with both 'Fic' and 'Art'. If you tag Podfic, you need to enter 'No Fandom' for the canon. If you select Fic or Art or both, you need to enter a song from the tag set for your canon.

Feel free to use the Description box to give your author/artist/podfic artist some prompts. Keep in mind that if you are asking for podfic, your podfic artist has a limited selection of works to choose from. You can suggest themes and types of story, or suggest specific works you would like to receive as a podfic, but your podfic artist may not follow those exactly.

Please let your author, artist, or podfic artist know of anything you really do not want to receive in your gift. Your gift creator is obliged to follow those preferences.

I have made separate posts for Dear Creator letters, which are an optional way to post your prompts outside AO3 and give your gift creator more detail about what you would like.

In general
If anyone has any questions about the changes to the sign-up form, or if you have any tips for people to consider when writing fanart, fanfiction, or podfic prompts, please comment.

As with all Jukebox posts, this post is mirrored on LiveJournal.

Now you can sign up!

Here is the form: SIGN-UP FORM LINK

Sign-ups will close at midnight on Sunday 4 May if you're in New York, or 4pm on Monday 5 May if you're in New Zealand. (Here is a countdown.)

From the FAQ
When you sign up, you can make between 3 and 6 requests from the available (nominated) pool of songs and music videos. There is a space to enter a prompt for each song you request, so you can give your mystery writer an idea of what kind of story you’d like.

Some exchange participants also like to post a longer letter for their writer in a personal journal or somewhere else. Feel free – that’s up to you. (I will shortly add a post where people can link their letters.)

You must also choose between 3 and 10 songs or music videos that you are willing to write for.

You will be assigned someone who has asked for at least one song or music video that you have offered. You must write them a story of 1,000 words or more, based on any of their prompts.

If none of your recipient’s requests are songs or videos you actually offered to write, email the mod account (jukebox.mod, at gmail) and I will sort this out.

What should a prompt look like?
Other, more eloquent people than me have written about how to write a perfect prompt. I have two suggestions:
-Talk about what you like (both within the canon, and in stories in general).
-Give your writer several options, if possible.

As a writer, what will be expected of me?
-Write a story to the word length and on time.
-Use your recipient's prompts as a guide. You may not be able to fulfil their request to the letter, but do your best to fulfill the spirit of their request.
-Please get the story looked at by a beta reader.
-Email me (jukebox.mod, gmail) if you're having problems.
-If the story isn't coming together, or stuff just happens, please default in plenty of time, if you can. This helps me arrange for a pinch hitter to write for your recipient.

I have not enabled the Ratings function on the sign-up form. You may certainly request explicit fic, but writers are not obligated to write a rating above their comfort level. If, as a recipient, you want writers to avoid specific things in your gift (explicit sex; verbal abuse; clowns), you are advised to mention this in your prompt.

Huzzah for the 26 people already signed up. Now is a great time to check the sign-up summary (LINK), check out the things people are asking for, and see if anything else inspires you among those requests. Now is also a good time to ensure that any "see my letter" prompts have a letter behind them. ^!^

I am pretty stoked that 25 people besides me are interested in this, but the more the merrier - if you know anyone who might be interested, please spread the word.

Sign-ups will close in approximately 48 hours - Sunday 11 August 23:59 EDT / Monday 12 August 16:00 NZST. In fact, have a COUNTDOWN.

Original stories?
A couple of people have asked for clarification about this. For this challenge, you are treating your recipient's requested songs as the only canon - or, if you like, you are writing an original story, possibly with original characters, based on the prompt you are given and the lyrics, rhythms and intonations of the song.

So what should a prompt look like?
Other, more eloquent people than me have written about how to write a perfect prompt. I have just two suggestions:

-Please get the story looked at by a beta reader. I will be setting up an email list for beta readers to put their hand up for stories. Or, ask someone you already know.
-Let the mod know if you're having problems.
